A Future and A Hope
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 24:13-14
My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste. Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
The more well-known text that talks about “a future and a hope” is in the book of Jeremiah. I won’t delve into that here, except to point out that having a future and a hope isn’t going to be dropped on your head in a way that is completely disconnected from your daily life decisions. Now, I’m not suggesting that God’s grace isn’t going to be extended and that His mercy is unavailable. We all know that we live by grace and mercy. We all need it and it is given abundantly.
What I am saying is that things go better in life when we seek wisdom and make our decisions based on it. This proverb compares wisdom to honey which is good for you and has the added bonus of tasting good too. Wisdom is like that for the soul.
If we seek wisdom from God and live wisely it becomes a predictor of good things for our future. If we act like a fool, we can expect a fool’s reward.
