A Prayer for Marriage
The way I personally order my prayer life includes an emphasis on praying for my family on Fridays. I pray for my family everyday, but on Friday they get special focus and I extend my prayers out to extended family members too. So, with that in mind I thought I would share this prayer by John Hunter on this Friday. It is primarily about marriage, so if you aren’t married you can adapt it as a way to pray for someone else’s marriage.
Almighty and most merciful God, who sets the solitary in families and is the author and giver of all good things; let your blessing, we pray you, descend and rest upon this husband and wife. Bless their marriage, and make it to them the source of abundant and enduring good. Keep them faithful - tender and true - so that they may live together in peace and good comfort. Direct and strengthen them in the discharge of all their duties. May they find in each other all that they hope - a joy that does not pass away. May their mutual affection never know change, doubt, or decay. May they love you supremely, and abide in your love; so shall their love for each other endure, and they remain comforters and helpers one of another unto their lives’ end. Preserve them amid the manifold dangers and temptations of the world. Teach them to order their household wisely and well, and to regard all their possessions as your gifts - to be employed in your service.
Amen.
