A Prayer of David
For Solomon and Jesus
David was at the end of his life and was anticipating the reign of Solomon, his son. It is a beautiful prayer that is filled with great hope for the son who was replacing him as king of Israel. Whether or not David knew it, he was also expressing a desire for a future Son who would be The King, not only of Israel but of the whole world.
We can read this Psalm with Solomon in mind. We can also read this with the Lord Jesus in mind. Reading this Messianically, we should see it not only as a prayer of desire but also as a prophecy of what would most certainly come to pass and be true of the Christ.
Christ’s reign will be one of justice. He will bring true and lasting prosperity to His people who live in His kingdom. He will rule over the nations of the world. Every nation and all people will fall down in worship before Him and serve Him.
The oppressed will be blessed. The earth will find relief from the curse. His name will be glorious and blessed forever.
Amen.
