A Word Fitly Spoken
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 25:11
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
“Fitly spoken” literally means “on its wheels. But the idea is at the right time and the right place. It is saying something at just the right time. A skill few have mastered. “Apples of gold” are likely to be taken as golden apples or apples with a golden/yellow color. Apples are good in themselves, just as the truth (“a word”) is good in itself. But the truth spoken at the right time and in the right place is like apples made all the more attractive when served or set out in a silver bowl. The silver bowl is the right time and place.
May we have the wisdom to speak the truth at the right time and in the right place so that it is received as golden apples in a silver bowl.
