Am I Just Dreaming
Scripture Reading: Psalm 126:1
We were like those who dream
When the Israelites returned to Jerusalem after 70 years in Babylon, they were overwhelmed with joy, saying, “We were like those who dream.” It was a moment so wonderful, it felt unreal—almost as if they had to pinch themselves to believe it was really happening.
This phrase, “like those who dream,” captures that sense of overwhelming joy when we experience something beyond our expectations. It makes me think of a line from a song I heard growing up. In the song “The Border,” the band America sang, “Am I just dreaming?”— a question we often ask in moments that seem too good to be true.
Yet, even the wonder the Israelites felt pales in comparison to the joy that awaits God’s people when we enter His eternal kingdom. God’s promise is that we will experience a joy so profound, it will make our highest earthly moments seem small in comparison. On that day, we’ll look back and say, “We were like those who dream.”
In the meantime, we can live with hope, knowing that our God is one who brings restoration and joy. Whatever challenges or exiles we face now are nothing compared to the incredible reality of God’s eternal kingdom, which will feel more vivid than any dream.
