Arkansas
part two
[Saturday stories for a few weeks will be a travel journal. Hope you enjoy riding along with us.]
We were close to downtown, so we drove that way, found a parking spot, and started walking around. The Razorback Greenway is hooked up with Springdale now. It runs right into downtown. If you like biking, it’s a great place to ride.
We found a place to eat right by the Greenway. It’s called Homegrown – breakfast lunch place – mostly breakfast but a few lunch items on the menu. We took a table outside on the sidewalk. The sun was blazing down on my back, but it was still pleasant out. Tiffany, a young, pleasant Asian girl, was our server. Monica ordered a turkey sandwich, and I had the BLT + A (A for avocado). Both were good choices but the bread wasn’t as good as what M makes, but I’ve not had any as good as hers.
While sitting there, a lady rolled up on her bike and stopped at the corner right next to me. She waved a car on that was waiting for her and said, “Go ahead. I need to check my phone.” And she did for several minutes. She was looking at her phone and then looking up and looking around repeatedly. Finally, she looked over at me and asked, “Do you know where the Phat Tire Bike Shop is?”
I did. Because that is what I do. I mean, I see bike shops. They are like eye magnets for me. I noticed it when we were walking down the street. It was about a block over from where we were sitting. I pointed. “Yes. It is right over there.”
“Oh!” she replied with a smile, “I see it now.”
While we were eating I was scoping out our next move. We could take the interstate south and be in Van Buren in short order, but we could also take 71 and see something. I chose 71. It was right near where we were eating anyway.
It wasn’t long until we were in Fayetteville. The traffic seemed heavy and it was near the University. I wondered if there was a game in town that day. I never got an answer but I assume there was since I saw several women decked out in glamorously seek Razorback outfits. Yes, I don’t know how glamour, chic and Razorback all fit together, but there you go.
