As for Me
Scripture Reading: Micah 7:7
But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.
Read in its context, we see that Micah had been describing a culture in which trust in others was a fool’s errand. The “godly [had] perished from the earth.” That is to say, the general state of things had badly deteriorated from the previous generation. Micah isn’t saying there were zero godly men or women left. If he was, that would mean he was saying he was also ungodly. He was saying that the number of godly people was so low as to be insignificant.
The rulers were wicked. Neighbors and friends couldn’t be trusted. Even one’s own family had become enemies.
Micah had made a personal determination to trust God.
His statement shouldn’t be taken as an arrogant boast; a self-righteous proclamation of superior sanctification. This is the confession of a man who has seen a learned the futility of putting faith in anything or anyone but the Lord.
Like Joshua, who famously said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” Micah is stating his determined decision to ground his faith in his God.
We live in days much like Micah’s. We can either become shriveled souls without joy or hope, or we can patiently trust God, wait on His deliverance, and seek Him in prayer. We can’t make that decision for anyone else. We can only make it for ourselves.
