At the Cross
Scripture Reading: Psalm 85:10
Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other…
One of man’s struggles is the ability to be both just and merciful. To be righteous usually is accompanied by stern justice. “God’s problem” (Using that term with due caution) is how can He be just and also show mercy? If God is just He must punish sin. If God is merciful, doesn’t He have to overlook our sin and give us a pass?
The answer to the conundrum is found in the Cross of Christ. At the Cross, God dealt justly with sin. Christ “became sin for us.” Our sin was justly punished in Christ. At the same time and through the same event, God “demonstrated His love for us.” The Cross is the greatest display of grace in history. Further, it is through the Cross that “we have peace with God.”
So, righteousness and peace kissed at the Cross.
