BC AD
Scripture Reading: John 1:14-18
In a few days, we will need to adjust to writing 2023 instead of 2022. When I used to write checks more often, I would often make the mistake of writing the previous year. I usually made the change around February. So, 2023 is approaching, but 2,023 what? The proper way to write it is AD 2023. It is the dating method that has been almost universal since Dionysisus Exiguus came up with our present form of dating. (His name means “Dennis the Small” and you have to admit Dionysisus Exiguus sounds more impressive than “Dennis the Small”)
BC, as you might expect, stands for “before Christ.” While many assume that AD means “after death,” it doesn’t. It comes from the Latin phrase “anno Domini” which means “the year of our Lord,” which is a reference to the year of Christ’s birth. Therefore, how we date history is centered on the birth of Christ. His birth is the axle on which all of history turns.
It is the coming of Christ, and all that precedes from it that is the focal point. Everything prior pointed toward this and everything since looks back to it.

It’s ironic how todays woke crowd insists on BCE and CE but their dating remains the same this still acknowledging the birth of Jesus. 🤔
A good reminder to “redeem the time (making the most of your time) because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:16
