Be a Blessing
not a burden
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 10:7
The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.
The company I work for has as one of the core values to be a blessing and not a burden to their customers. We should all strive for that, not only in our workplace but in our personal lives as well. We should desire to be a blessing and not a burden in families, our neighborhoods, our schools, our churches, and our communities.
Of course, when we live to please Christ, not everyone is going to receive our words and actions as being a blessing. And I don’t think we should have been remembered well and memorialized as a saint as one of our prime directives. Still, to use the terminology of Paul, we should seek to leave behind us the “fragrance of Christ.”
May the Lord grant us the grace to live to be a blessing. Let us pray together the old song, “Make me a blessing, make me a blessing. Out of my life may Jesus shine. Make me a blessing, o Savior I pray. Make me a blessing to someone today.”
