Building a Great Culture
Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 1:35
Lod and Ono, the valley of craftsman…
Pittsburg is known for its steel, Detroit for its cars, and Las Vegas for sin. Not every city and town develops an identity like that, but many do. In the days of Nehemiah, Lod, and Ono were known for being the valley where craftsmen lived and worked.
I don’t want to make too much out of why this was mentioned. I suspect it only served as an identifier. It clarified what towns Nehemiah had in mind. Nevertheless, I do find it instructive. A city or town can become known by the kind of work and industry that is predominant there.
Communities can also develop a reputation as “a good place to raise a family,” or as having “good schools,” and even as a place that is free from crime (or not). I only point this out to suggest that we play a role in the culture of the places we live. We play a role in how we live and by what kind of government we pursue and elect.
November is almost upon us. Don’t sit it out. Help be a part of building places where you would want your children and grandchildren to live…because they will, for good or ill.

Amen
