Christ Our Passover
December series on how the Old Testament points us to Christ
Scripture Reading: Exodus 12; 1 Corinthians 5:7
For indeed, Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us…
Behold, the ancient drama of redemption unfolds in the midnight shadows of Egypt. Nine plagues had scoured the land, but Pharaoh’s heart remained as stone. Now the Lord, in righteous wrath and infinite mercy, prepared His final act of deliverance. The destroyer would pass through the land, sparing none except those marked by the blood of the lamb.
The command was given: a lamb without blemish was to be slain, and its blood painted on the doorposts and lintel. When the angel of death descended, he would pass over every home shielded by the crimson sign, sparing the firstborn within. On that solemn night, the people of Israel were not saved by their heritage, their deeds, or their strength. They were saved by the blood alone.
And in the dawn’s first light, they rose, unshackled and free, the tyrant crushed under the hand of God. The lamb’s blood marked their exodus from slavery to freedom, from death to life.
Now turn your gaze from the shadows of Egypt to the substance of Christ. Paul, the apostle, declares: Christ, our Passover, is sacrificed for us. In Jesus, the type is fulfilled and the promise made complete. The spotless Lamb of God was slain, and His blood was shed—not for one household or one nation but for all who would believe.
Here is the marvel: what must we do to be saved? Nothing more and nothing less than this—to be under the blood. The Israelites did not mix their own efforts with the lamb’s sacrifice; neither can we add our works to Christ’s finished atonement. It is His blood alone that saves us from the wrath to come.
The lesson is plain and urgent. - Without the blood, there is judgment. With the blood, there is life eternal. So, come to this fountain of grace? Shelter beneath the crimson banner? The doorposts of your soul must be marked with His sacrifice, for no other covering will suffice when the angel of death comes.
Christ is our Passover. He was sacrificed for us that we might go free. Let us behold the Lamb, slain yet victorious, who leads us out of bondage and into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Trust in Him, for in His blood is your safety and your salvation..

Amen
