Christological Interpretation
Scripture Reading: John 5:30-47
“For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me…”
While it is not the only consideration you should make when interpreting the texts of Scripture, central to understanding the Bible is knowing that it points us to Christ. We see that in the text of John 5. There Jesus tells the Jews that Moses “wrote of me.” Jesus is saying the Pentateuch is about Him. In a similar vein, after the resurrection, Jesus shows the two disciples on the way to Emmaus how the whole of the Old Testament pointed to Him.
The Scriptures are not meant to be used as a self-help manual. Is there help in there for you? Absolutely! The best kind! But the help comes through Jesus, who He is, and what He has done. It comes at us through Him. Therefore, the subject of the Bible is Jesus. It is pointing to Him first and foremost. Look first for Him. Interpret the Bible Christologically.
