Don't Swerve
Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:157
Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, but I do not swerve from your testimonies.
We are living during a time of a rising tide of persecution. It isn’t what we usually imagine when we think of persecution. It isn’t the sword slaying and the prison door slamming. Not yet anyway. It is high-intensity pressure to conform and accept the immorality of a culture that has gone off the rails and is showing all the signs of a society that has been given over to wrath by God.
The goal is to get us to abandon the truth of God. The way the Psalmist puts it is they want us to “swerve from [God’s] testimonies.” The temptation is for us to get some relief from the pressure by compromising and denying what God says in His word and accepting an alternative “truth.”
The world and the devil want us to believe (or at least say we believe) the lie.
May God grant us the strength of faith that we will be able to say, “I do not swerve from your testimonies,” even though “many are my persecutors and my adversaries.”

Amen
