Fluffy Clouds
and a harp
Scripture Reading: Revelation 22:1-4
Heaven is a caricature in many people’s minds. They think of it as the cartoonish idea of getting angel wings, being issued a harp, and spending eternity floating around on a pillowy white cloud aimlessly strumming tunes. This vision of heavenly idleness has no basis in Scripture.
If you want to understand heaven go back to the future. Look at the Garden of Eden where Adam both fellowshipped with God and tended to God’s creation. It is like that, only much better. These ideas of service and worship are joined together in the last chapter of the Bible. Revelation 22:3 says, “His servants will worship Him.” Serve and worship.
There will be a New Heaven and a New Earth. It will be glorious beyond our wildest imagination. The glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. There will be much to do there. We will work without laboring. The thorns and thistles will be no more. The sweat and aches will be gone. We will both worship freely and work tirelessly.
It’s going to be grand.
