Fret Not
A lot of good people are stressed and worried these days. There’s a good reason for that. I confess that I have my share of anxious moments. That’s why I need to come back to Psalm 37 often. I need to hear it from the Lord. I need my brothers to exhort me to do this. I need to repeatedly say it to myself.
Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
The “fret not” necessarily depends on the “trust in the Lord and do good.” We won’t overcome our anxiousness merely because we tell ourselves or are told by someone else to “stop it!” That’s important, but it’s only a part of the remedy. We have to marry that “fret not” to the “trust in the Lord.” Or, to put it the way Paul did, we have to “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication make your requests known unto God.”
Fret not, brothers, by trusting in the Lord.

Thank you for this today. I am one that needs to remember to do this daily.
