On Saturday I send out a “Saturday Story.” This is simply a break from the regular Scripture-based daily devotional. Sometimes there is a moral to the story, sometimes it's just a story. I’ll mostly leave that to you to decide. Today is a continuation from previous weeks. You can go back and read the previous Saturday Stories for full context. I hope you enjoy it and your weekend.}
She told us she had lived on another nearby island. Her family was Muslim. One day a friend of hers told her about Jesus. She learned about the gospel, the forgiveness of sin, and the eternal life that is promised to those who believe in Christ. She said that she knew it was true and came to believe in Christ.
After she came to accept Christ as Lord and Savior, she was very happy. Her whole outlook on life changed. She was a different person. She wanted her family to have the same kind of joy she had come to know. So, she told them all one evening about Jesus and her new faith in Him.
Her father became very angry. He demanded that she renounce her faith and deny Jesus. She told him she couldn’t do that. He told her he would give her a few days and if she had not denied Jesus by then, he would have her killed.
That night she went to bed knowing that her father was serious and he would do what he said. He would have her put to death if she would not deny Jesus. But she knew she couldn’t do that. She decided to run away. She slipped out of her bedroom window, made her way to the boat docks, found a ferry that would take her to this island, and prayed that God would take care of her.
When she arrived, she met the pastor and his wife. She told them what had happened. They brought her to this home and took her in. She was living with them as their daughter. Her family had no idea where she was because if they found her, her life would be in danger.
She finished her story by sharing with us what she called her “life verse:”
“When my father and mother forsake me, then the LORD will take care of me.” Psalm 27:10
