God Fights in Our Fight
Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 4:19
I said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “The work is great and widely spread, and we are separated on the wall, far from one another. In the place where you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.”
If we only read the last sentence of Nehemiah 4:19, we would get the idea that Nehemiah was saying that the people didn’t need to do anything because God would do it all for them. They didn’t need to fight because God would do the fighting on their behalf.
If you read that sentence in the context, it is clear that Nehemiah could not have meant that. As we saw yesterday, he had already challenged them to fight for their families and friends. Even in this verse, he is giving them a strategic plan of action if they come under attack.
Nehemiah is not encouraging passivity. He is calling for faith. He is saying to them that they need to have faith that God will fight in their fight. The battle is not theirs alone. What they are fighting for is God’s work. God is not calling on them to fight while he takes a chair as a spectator to see how it all goes for them.
God Himself will be their ally.
When you stand for what is right and good and holy and just you won’t be standing alone.
