God With Us
a December series on how the Old Testament points us to Christ
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” — Isaiah 7:14
Have you ever felt like life was a battle you didn’t sign up for? Maybe you’re staring at a mountain of uncertainty, wondering if God sees you at all. That’s where King Ahaz stood when Isaiah spoke these words. Threatened by enemies and overwhelmed by fear, he needed reassurance that God had not abandoned him. And what did God do? He promised a sign of His presence—a child called Immanuel, “God with us.”
That’s a hopeful name, isn’t it? It is more than a name - it is a promise. Promises are meant to be believed. When God challenged Ahaz to ask for a sign, Ahaz refused. He feigned spirituality and said his reasoning was he did not want to tempt God. The truth is, he didn’t ask because he knew when God answered he would have to choose belief or unbelief. He would have to act in faith or disobedient doubting.
This Christmas, when you hear songs with lyrics like, “O come, O come, Immanuel…” within it is this same call to believe. Will you believe that God has come in Jesus as our Immanuel? Will you trust that the baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in the manger was and is the Savior of the world?
Immanuel has come. God is with us. God is with you to save you.

Yes!!
