Good Deeds
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:11-12
Good is a broad category. Many deeds could be classified as good deeds. That’s a good thing. Good can be done at any time and in any place. It doesn’t have to be organized or institutionalized. We don’t need to raise money to do good. We don’t need a class on doing good. We don’t even have to plan it. There is nothing wrong with raising money, planning, or being trained for particular good works. Sometimes that is helpful and necessary. The point is it isn’t required. You can do good and should do good every day in some way for someone.
Peter mentions good deeds multiple times in 1 Peter. Other than the linked Scripture reading see 2:14-15; 3:6; 3:13; 3:16-17; and 4:19. He thought it was important.
John Wesley said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”
Doing good doesn’t have to cost much. It doesn’t need to be a complicated endeavor. You just have to be intentional, led by the Spirit, and willing to put yourself out there. Pray to be a blessing to someone today.
