Grandpa's Ruler
{Welcome to Saturday Stories. Saturday Stories are a break from the Bible based daily devotional. On Saturday I write a story from life. Sometimes there is a moral to the story and sometimes they are just stories}
A while back, while working on a trim job I had the need to pull out the folding ruler. I inherited it from my Grandpa Roberts. That is my hand and Grandpa’s ruler in the picture. Back when I received it, I thought I would just put it in a drawer and keep it as a token of remembrance. But I realized a couple of things that made me change my mind. First, I would forget about it if it were tucked away safely somewhere. Second, when I pass none of my sons are going to care about hanging on to it.
So, I decided to keep on using it. Now every time I get it out, I think about Grandpa. I see him in my mind and wonder what he might have used this for and about the fact that decades ago his hands once held this same tool.
A few years ago, a customer’s dog ran off with it when I had my back turned. It bothered me that I lost it. It turned up a few days later. I considered putting it in a safe place after that. But I couldn’t do it. I like having Grandpa around when I work.
