Harbinger
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 18:12
A harbinger is a forerunner or a foreshadowing of that which is to come. Its etymology comes from Germanic roots. It stems from a military word that had to do with lodging and developed into a word that referred to someone who went before a royal officer to acquire and prepare lodging. From that “harbinger” became more widely applied to anything or anyone who came before and therefore announced or predicted what was to follow.
Proverbs 18:12 speaks of two harbingers – pride and humility. When you see pride and humility they are harbingers of destruction and honor. Whenever you see sinful pride you can be certain that destruction is on its way. In the same vein, when you see humility, you can be sure that honor is not far behind.
Strive, therefore, to kill pride and to walk humbly with your God.

Amen
