How to be Steadfast
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 26:1-4
Returning to Isaiah 26:3 this morning, we see the connection between steadfastness and faith. Taking the second and third lines of the verse together, Isaiah is saying that trust or reliance on Christ makes for a steadfast mind.
In a world such as ours, and in the age in which we live, it is easy to be blown about by cultural winds. The desire to fit in and be accepted and acceptable in society, the cowardly bent toward getting along and not creating conflict, will result in many an unstable soul to tolerate and then accept and applaud things which, only a few years ago, they would have rejected out of hand. Apostasy is becoming the norm, not the exception.
To have a steady life there has to be a strong hand guiding the ship as it traverses this stormy sea. We, in and of ourselves, aren’t capable to captain our own ship. We need someone strong and mighty to guide our way.
Those who look to Christ, find in Him the One who holds us fast and keeps us steadfast. To be able to rule ourselves we need to be ruled by Christ. One of the fruit of the Spirit is self-control. To be controlled by Christ’s Spirit results in having self-control. When we hold fast to Christ by faith, we find His steady and strong hand will keep us steady and strong.
