I Am Helped
Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 4-6; Acts 23; Psalm 28
The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped…
There’s a lot that comes before this confident declaration of faith.
David begins this psalm pleading with God to hear him. He asks that the Lord not turn a deaf ear to his cry for mercy. He’s especially concerned that he not be swept away with the wicked when judgment comes.
He sees that the judgment on evildoers is just—but he also seems afraid he might get caught in the storm of God’s wrath.
Then, in verse six, the tone shifts.
“Blessed be the LORD! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.”
But David never tells us how he knew God heard him.
There’s no recorded sign, no thunder from heaven, no prophetic word of reassurance. The text simply moves from fear to faith.
And maybe that’s the point.
Maybe there wasn’t a visible answer. Maybe what changed was David’s heart.
Maybe the help came when he chose to trust.
That’s what verse 7 tells us:
“My heart trusts in him, and I am helped.”
I once owned a book whose content I don’t remember well, but the title stuck with me. It was called “Faith-Rest.”
Not a flashy title, but worth its weight in gold. I’ve returned to those two words again and again.
Sometimes, when your soul is unsettled, when heaven seems silent, and when it feels like God has turned a deaf ear—what you need is faith-rest. Not a sign. Not a miracle. Just trust.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart—and you will be helped.
Whether or not you see how He’s helping,
Whether or not the storm clears today,
Whether or not the heavens thunder an answer—
He will help you when your heart rests in Him.

This was a beautiful short read thank you.
