It's Sunday
time to gather
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4
The Christians are a minority in this country. Here, the Muslims worship on Friday. The Buddhists and Hindus have their regular festivals, and the temples are open and visited all the time. But the Christians gather on Sunday. This was a Sunday morning and so, we drove past the busy markets where buying and selling were happening. We passed busses, cars, bicycles, and motorbikes. People were going here and there.
But on a back street on the edge of a village, there sits a modest concrete-walled building that is called “Living Christian Assembly.” Every Sunday men and women, boys and girls gather there. They call themselves “Christians.” Every Sunday they do the things Christians everywhere do. They pray. They sing. They preach the gospel and they take communion.
These are the called-out ones and it’s Sunday. For them, Sunday is the Lord’s Day. So, they assemble. They gather together. That’s the thing that distinguishes them from the rest of their community. They are marked as a gathering people. A people who come together for Jesus' sake. To forsake their brothers and sisters on Sunday for other pursuits would be a denial of their identity.
It’s Sunday. And Christians gather on Sunday.
