Jesus, You Can Trust Him
On Whom Can You Trust (part three)
Isaiah 22:20-25; Revelation 3:7
It is interesting that the Lord Jesus quotes from the passage in Isaiah 22 that is about Eliakim. It is almost verbatim: “Who has the key of David, who opens, and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.”
Jesus begins this letter to the church at Philadelphia with “The words of the holy one, the true one…” And the point is, He is what Eliakim was not. Again, on a scale of human goodness, wisdom, and humility Eliakim was a fine man. But he was just a man. Jesus is THE HOLY ONE, THE TRUE ONE. He is singularly holy and true. He stands, not as a holy man among holy men, but as The Holy One. He is not one of many true men. He is the True One. This stems from the fact that Jesus is God, the second person of the triune God, the eternal Son of God.
Because of whom Jesus is, unlike Eliakim, he will not give way. He is that “peg in a secure place” that will remain solid, dependable, unmovable, and secure forever. He is the One in whom we can trust. He is the “Peg” upon which we can hang everything. Eliakim was a great man. Jesus is the God/man. You can trust Him. You must trust Him.

Amen
