Just a Word
Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 26-28; John 1; Psalm 112
Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
—John 1:49–50
Jesus didn’t perform a dramatic miracle in that moment with Nathanael. He didn’t heal the sick or raise the dead. He simply spoke a single sentence—“I saw you under the fig tree.”
Yet that word pierced Nathanael’s heart. It met him in a place only God could have known. That quiet moment of insight changed the entire direction of his life.
Some people, like Saul on the road to Damascus, need blinding light and a voice from heaven to believe. But others are drawn in by something as simple as a timely word. One sentence, rightly spoken, can accomplish what a hundred signs and wonders cannot.
Today, as you speak with others—at work, at home, in passing—ask the Holy Spirit to guide your words. You never know when a gentle, Spirit-prompted phrase might become the very means God uses to awaken faith in someone’s heart.
