Led by Light
Scripture Reading: Psalm 43
The plea of the Psalmist was for God to send out His light and truth and for them to lead him. Lead him where? I’ve been praying for God’s direction concerning a decision I need to make. I genuinely want to make the wisest decision. I want to do God’s will. But I need to be careful that I am not just looking for God to be a helpful guide for my journey. He should be the Shepherd Whom I am following.
I was in India once with a couple of pastors. We were traveling from a remote area where we had held a training conference and they were taking me to an airport in a large city where I would be leaving for home. The problem was they had no idea how to get from point A to point B. Their chosen method of figuring that out was stopping along the road every so often and asking strangers which direction to go. The people they would ask would point off down the road and off we would go. These strangers were nothing more than a momentary voice of instruction.
In seeking direction, the Lord should not be like a stranger from whom we get directions while we make our way through life. The Psalmist had the right idea. He saw God’s light and truth leading him toward God. They would take him to the altar of God, to God Himself. Light and truth would lead him to worship God and find his true joy in Him.
Seek God’s leading. Ask for light and truth. Light and truth that is from God can lead you to the right job, or church, or home, or spouse. But if it is from God it will also lead you to God himself, and the experience of joy in Him.
