Like a Man
Scripture Reading: Job 38:3, 4:7
It wasn’t all that long ago that we would understandably read these verses without giving them much thought. “Dress for action like a man,” God challenges Job. One of the ways the devil seeks to weaken societies and remove the safeguards against his wicked plans is to weaken men. We live in a fallen world and evil comes at us in many forms. False gospels, wicked philosophies of demons, and full-on assaults on humanity are always looming threats. What we need are men.
God could be accused of being overly harsh here. After all, poor Job has just had the stuffings kicked out of him and now God is telling him to be a man. No slack. What’s up with that?
It is not that there is no place for comfort, mercy, sympathy, and gentle understanding; but there is also a need for men to be men. We need men to face the hard questions, speak the truth, do right, be right, and be willing to take the arrows for their families’ sake, for their country’s sake, and most of all, for Christ’s sake.
So, dress for action like a man.
