Like a Rock
Scripture Reading: Psalm 15
Those who do these things shall never be moved. (v.5b)
In the 1980’s the phrase “like a rock” was popularized in American culture by musician Bob Seger in a song by that title. The song is about a 38 year old man reflecting back on his life. He remembers that when he was 18 he had a sense of purpose, he knew where he was going, he stood straight and tall and he held firmly to what he believed was right. He was “like a rock.” Now that he is approaching mid-life he wonders what happened to the years and that rock-like young man.
Like ships at sea, if we are not firmly anchored, the winds and waves of life will push us to where we don’t want to go. Life-drift happens when we lack the moral and spiritual values that will keep us anchored to Christ.
The Psalmist lays out eleven principles for “rock-like-living.” It is not meant to be exhaustive list of every core value for an anchored, rock-like-life; but it is a good starting place. If our core values line-up with those found in this Psalm we will certainly be more firmly anchored in Christ.
O’ Rock of Ages, fill me with the grace I need to live the kind of life that will anchor me firmly to you. Amen.

Thank you!
