Love does not envy or boast…

Why is boasting not loving? Good question. I think it is because the boastful person is self-focused rather than being focused on others. They want to be and make every effort to be, the center of attention. One of the hallmarks of a loving heart is genuine care and concern for others. The loving person isn’t thinking about what the person who they are with is thinking about them. They sincerely want to know the other person more than they want the other person to know them.

That’s not to say that they don’t share about themselves, but they do so far as they believe it will help and encourage the other person. They aren’t looking for ways to receive praise back. They aren’t looking at the other person as a means to an end.

The loving person feels no need to be a perpetual self-promotion parade. They lovingly take the attitude of Christ, who made himself of no reputation… (Philippians chapter two).
