Love Letters
Scripture Reading: John 3
Decades ago, while stationed in Europe, Pvt. Stephen L. Neal wrote countless love letters to his wife, Eva. All but one of those letters made it into her hands. The Postal Service delivered the missing letter 50 years after it was written after finding it in a wall of the demolished Percy Jones Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. At the time it was not clear whether Mrs. Neal would be able to open the letter since she was in the hospital recovering from bypass surgery.
There is a romantic intrigue about an unopened love letter. There is something that beckons us to want to read words of affection, friendship, and love. There is something that warms the heart to see in print words that say someone cares for us. I never feel emotional over junk mail, I sometimes feel anxiety opening bills, I occasionally feel joy in correspondence with friends, but I always am deeply touched by a love letter from Monica.
For some of us, there is an unopened letter of love from God. It was not lost by the Postal Service, but it lies unopened on our dressers, in the back window of our cars, or buried under a stack of other things. That love letter is the Bible. In it, God speaks of how great His love is for us. A love so great that even while we were choosing against him, even while were breaking His laws, even while we were yet sinners; Christ died for us.
Why not open up your Bible today and read of God’s love for you.

Beautiful story!
