Mighty God
People make the false claim that the Bible never says that Jesus is God, but this is exactly the claim that Isaiah is making about the Messiah here. He is the Mighty God. Deity is clearly being ascribed to the Christ. He is a child born, yet somehow, he is also God. This is the great mystery of the incarnation, the truth over which many stumble.
Jesus is born of the lineage of David and yet He is David’s Lord. He was born in Bethlehem, yet He was seen by Abraham and Isaiah. He is God incarnate. It is, in a sense, redundant to say “God Almighty,” for God, by his very nature is Almighty. Isaiah adds it though. He wants us to grasp the infinite power of the child born in Bethlehem. He wants us to come and adore Him.
“Praise the LORD oh my soul and all that is within me bless HIS Holy name.”
