Monday Moring
belongs to Christ
Scripture Reading: Psalm 104:19-24
This text is a part of a larger poem in praise of God for His good creation. The Psalmist is reflecting on the order of life in this world. The sun and moon mark the days and seasons of life on Earth. Within this ordered rhythm of life, man goes about his daily work (verse 23) and follows the divine pattern of work and rest.
Monday, for many people, marks the first workday of the week. I think it is good for us to do what the Psalmist did and set that within the larger framework of God’s designs and purposes. We should be careful to not compartmentalize the sacred in a way that divorces it completely from the secular. The divide should not be such that we leave Jesus at the church when we drive out of the parking lot on Sunday morning.
As Abraham Kuyper famously said, “There is not one square inch of the entire creation about which Jesus Christ does not cry out, “This is Mine!”
It’s Monday morning and “Hi ho, hi ho. It’s off to work we go.” But as you go may you hear the voice of Christ crying out, “This is Mine,” and live and work by that truth.
