No, It's Not

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 13:5-6

Reading through Paul’s “love chapter” we notice that while Paul does make a lot of positive statements that tell us what love is, he also spends a great deal of this chapter telling us what love is not. I think that is an important element in this description of love.

While we can look at the positive side and evaluate whether we are practicing Christian love, we should also examine ourselves from the other side of this fence. Are we envious? That’s not love. Are we boastful? That’s not love. Are we proud? That’s not love. Are we rude? That’s not love.

And on it goes. More often than not, what we aren’t is revealed by what we are.
