One Way to Pray
before church
Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:33-40
One of my minor struggles with my devotional reading of Scripture has always been what to do with Psalm 119. I read a Psalm a day, and it is so lengthy I always found myself rushing through or skipping it, or not focusing on what it said. I solved the problem by just reading one section of Psalm 119 a day when I come to it. That means I spend 22 days in it once or twice a year. Slowing my pace here has been a blessing and I have come to appreciate and learn from this Psalm about the Word.
Verses 33-40 fall under the Hebrew letter “He.” Each line except the last begins with a one or two-word prayer: teach me, give me, lead me, incline my heart, turn my eyes, confirm, turn away.” These bullet point prayers are wonderful prayers to pray as you read the Scriptures. They are also great prayers for you to pray as you head off to church this morning to hear the Word taught and preached.
Pray through Psalm 119:33-40 with the Psalmist this morning.
