Only Jesus Saves
Scripture Reading: Numbers 1-2; Mark 6; Psalm 49
"Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice… But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me."
Most people spend their lives trying to secure themselves—financially, physically, or socially. Psalm 49 reminds us that no amount of money, power, or human effort can buy freedom from death. The richest billionaire and the poorest laborer share the same destiny: the grave. But the psalmist introduces a profound hope—God Himself provides a ransom (v. 15).
Centuries later, Jesus declared that He came “to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). What we could not buy with wealth, He purchased with His own blood (1 Peter 1:18-19). Unlike earthly wealth that perishes, Christ’s ransom is eternal and sufficient.
Psalm 49 contrasts those who trust in riches and die without hope with those who are redeemed by God. Jesus fulfills this by securing eternal life for His people. Death is no longer the end for those in Christ (John 11:25-26). Like the psalmist, we can say with confidence: “God will ransom my soul… for He will receive me” (Psalm 49:15).
If Jesus has paid the ultimate price for our redemption, how should we live? Psalm 49 challenges us not to envy the wealthy or put our hope in temporary things. Instead, we are called to trust in Christ, invest in eternity, and live with confidence in our eternal inheritance.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for sending Jesus as the ransom we could never pay. Help me to trust in Him rather than in fleeting riches. Teach me to live each day with eternity in view. Amen.

Good work Steven, thanks for sharing.
