Pray Like Elijah
James 5:13-18
As James comes to the end of his letter, he exhorts us to pray. Pray when you suffer. Pray with others when you are sick. Pray to confess your sins. Pray because God works through prayer. People say, “there is power in prayer.” I disagree. There is power in God. Prayer is the means God has chosen to connect us to Himself and His resources and His power to meet our needs.
We are to pray like Elijah. James encourages us by telling us that Elijah was a man with a nature just like ours. It is hard for us to believe that, but it is true. He put his robe on one arm at a time just like you (if you wear a robe). The question isn’t is Elijah like us? He is. The question is, are we like Elijah when it comes to prayer?
Are we righteous? Are we fervent? Are we persistent?
Pray.
