Purposeful Living
Scripture Reading: Psalm 138
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. (v.8)
I once heard a fable about three stone masons working on a construction project. Someone asked them what they were doing. One said he was laying bricks. Another said he was building a wall. But the third said he was erecting a grand cathedral. Sometimes it is not just what we are doing, but how we view what we are doing that gives us a sense of purpose.
David discovered purpose through his relationship with God. He didn’t just see bricks and a wall. David saw a cathedral under construction. He viewed God as the grand architect. Even in when he walked “in the midst of trouble” he was confident that God had a purpose for him. He had faith that the Lord’s purpose would be fulfilled.
Even more inspiring, David believed that his role in God’s purposes was governed by God’s steadfast and enduring love. He didn’t feel used by God, but loved.
