Raised Up
a horn for God's people
Scripture Reading: Psalm 148:14
He has raised up a horn for his people, praise for all his saints, for the people of Israel who are near to him. Praise the Lord.
The Psalms are poetic and use poetic language. Some metaphors are clear to us. We know what “The Lord is my Shepherd” means without much effort. At other times, the symbolism used escapes us. This might be one of those instances.
What is meant by “He has raised up a horn?”
In the Old Testament, a horn was often used as a symbol of power and strength.
If we look at this through a Christological lens and view it Messianically, we can apply this to Jesus Christ. Jesus is the horn of salvation, the strength of God to raise up for His people. Through the resurrection, God raised up Jesus Christ in victory over the last, final, and great enemy, death.
He is our glory and our strength. Jesus is God’s horn raised up for His people.
Praise the Lord.
