Rise Up, O Lord
Scripture Reading:
"And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, ‘Rise up, O Lord! May your enemies be scattered; may your foes flee before you.’" – Numbers 10:3
As we step into a new year, it’s natural to feel a mix of hope and uncertainty. We may carry joys and victories from the past year, but we might also carry fears, burdens, or unresolved challenges. In Numbers 10:35, Moses’s prayer as the Ark of the Covenant moved forward offers us a powerful reminder of how to face the journey ahead—with faith in the Lord’s presence and victory.
The Ark of the Covenant was more than a sacred object; it symbolized God’s presence leading His people. When Moses cried out, “Rise up, O Lord! May your enemies be scattered,” he wasn’t relying on human strength or strategy but on the power of God to go before His people, clearing obstacles and ensuring their triumph.
For us, as believers in Christ, this verse points to a deeper truth. The Ark foreshadowed Jesus Christ, the ultimate fulfillment of God’s presence among His people. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus "rose up," scattering the enemies of sin, death, and Satan. His victory secures our hope as we walk into the unknown.
Today we can make this ancient prayer of Moses our own. The difference is Moses was praying with a forward-looking faith anticipating what was to come and we pray with a backward-looking faith, believing in what has already been done. The prayer for the Lord to “rise up” has been epically answered in the resurrection of Jesus. \
Whatever fears or challenges we face in 2025, we can face them in faith and join in Moses' prayer. Just as the Israelites followed the Ark into the wilderness, trusting God’s direction and protection, we are called to follow Christ into this new year with confidence. Whatever lies ahead—victories, battles, or unexpected turns—we can confidently trust that His presence is with us, His power goes before us, and His promises sustain us because He died and rose again and ever lives to make intercession for us.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, as I begin this new year, I thank you that you have risen from the dead. Scatter the enemies of fear, doubt, and sin that seek to hold me back. Go before me as my guide and protector. Help me to trust You completely, knowing that Your victory is my victory. May this year be one of deeper faith, stronger hope, and greater love as I follow You. Amen.

Great way to start the year Steve!
