Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 8-10; Acts 6; Psalm 2
Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Psalm 2:10-12
As you probably noticed, we have completed the book of Psalms once and have begun our second journey through it this year. The rest of our reading plan will include reading through the rest of the Bible in a year, but we get to read Psalms twice. I think that is a great thing.
Up until a while back (I can’t recall exactly when and maybe it was a slow evolution without a single moment when it happened) I began to realize how deeply the Psalms focus is on Christ. Yes, I have always known that there are Messianic Psalms. But I saw them as a few scattered chapters here and there, obvious prophetic statements about Jesus.
What I have come to realize is that what Jesus told the disciples in Luke’s gospel is not hyperbole: Everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled. (Luke 24:44)
As you have started Psalms over again, I just wanted to take today to encourage you to look for Jesus throughout your second reading. He is there, not so secretly hidden in every line. In Psalm 2 he is more obvious. Kiss the Son! But don’t think he isn’t to be found in the less obvious songs as well.
May your second trip through Psalms this year be one of new discoveries and a greater understanding of the Lord Jesus.
