Seriously?
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 57:1-11
While I have included the first eleven verses of Isaiah 57 in the Scripture reading, I just wanted to point out a repeated phrase that is found in verses one and eleven. Both have the phrase, “did not take it to heart.” Verse one is speaking about the righteous and devout, while verse eleven is about the Lord.
In both instances, the general thrust is no one really pays attention to or seriously considers what is happening around them regarding the godly or even God himself. While that is a distressing reality, one that persists in the human experience to this day, there is something here that the righteous devout man can take heart.
Jesus was upfront with the disciples about the fact that they would often be treated as He was treated. His suffering would be their suffering. The same idea is in this text. The world isn’t thinking about God and taking Him seriously, so don’t be surprised if they don’t take you seriously or give thought to you either.
