Shoot and Root
Many of the Messianic prophecies are understood only in hindsight. At the time they were written they were enigmatic; they didn’t make sense. Isaiah 11 fits in that category. The “Branch” would be both the shoot (verse 1) and the root of Jesse (verse 10). He would both be from Jesse and Jesse would be from Him. How can that be?
As a man, Christ is a descendant of Jesse. As God, Jesse comes from Christ.
The Christmas season is upon us. I hope it becomes a time of meditating on the glories and wonders of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
