Sin Seeking You
Scripture Reading: Numbers 32-34; Psalm 64
The words of Numbers 32:23 are well known: "Be sure your sin will find you out." While this exact phrase appears only once in Scripture, its truth echoes throughout the Bible:
"As I have seen, those who plow iniquity and sow trouble reap the same." (Job 4:8)
"Whoever conceals his transgression will not prosper." (Proverbs 28:13)
"For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or bad." (Ecclesiastes 12:14)
"Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known." (Luke 12:2-3)
"Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap." (Galatians 6:7)
At first glance, these warnings might seem at odds with the gospel. Some even treat them as such. But when seen rightly, personal accountability and gospel forgiveness are not contradictory—they are beautifully connected.
Before the gospel can take root in our hearts, we must first grasp the bad news. The gospel is good news only to those who recognize the bad news: sin leads to judgment and death (see Romans 1-3). Knowing that our sin will be exposed urges us to confess and repent. It forces us to flee to the Cross, trusting Jesus alone for salvation.
Jesus is the only solution to the problem of sin, judgment, and death. He bore the punishment for sin in His own body on the Cross (2 Corinthians 5:21).
The bottom line is this: No sin goes unpunished. No one gets away with anything. Every sin will face judgment. Either it has been judged on the Cross through Jesus’ sacrifice, or it will be judged in you after death. It’s either Christ or judgment.
So don’t ignore your sin or hope it stays hidden. Bring it to the One who bore its weight and offers forgiveness full and free.
