Sing
Scripture Reading: Numbers 21-22; Psalm 59
Most of us enjoy music. A young man at work recently asked me what kind of music I like. I rattled off a list—bluegrass, country, classic rock, blues, indie folk, classical. Honestly, it would have been easier to tell him what I don’t like.
Music isn’t just entertainment; it’s a tool for the soul. Psalm 59 finds David in danger—his enemies prowl like wild dogs, waiting to destroy him (vv. 14-16). But instead of giving in to fear, David sings:
"I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning." (v. 16)
David doesn’t sing the blues. He sings of God's strength and love. Why? Because singing the truth of God lifts the soul, especially in hardship.
Numbers 21-22 also highlights the power of song. As Israel journeys through the wilderness, they sing of God's past deliverance—songs that fuel their hope for the future. Music reminds us of what God has done and encourages us to trust Him for what He will do.
So sing. Even if, like me, you’re not that great at it. Because when you lift your voice in truth, it lifts your soul in faith.
