Sound the Trumpet

Scripture Reading: Numbers 10:1-10

              Matthew Henry sees in the two silver trumpets a type of gospel preaching. If it is not meant to be a type, it is certainly a wonderful illustration of preaching. The trumpets were used to call the people of God together and to send them out. They were blown to warn of an approaching enemy and to remind of a feast day of rejoicing.

              In the same way, the proclamation of the gospel convicts the sinners and comforts the saints. It warns of the world the flesh and devil and their schemes to attack and subvert our faith. It calls God’s people to worship and then sends us out in warfare.

              Pray for your pastor today as he sounds the trumpet.
