Stoop Down
and drink
Scripture Reading: I Peter 5:6-11
I read of a hotel lobby water fountain that was operated by infrared light. The way it works is you bend down to drink and the act of breaking the sensor beam activates the water. There is said to be a sign above the water fountain instructing users. It simply says, “Stoop and drink.”
The way of the Christian life is not to always be climbing higher, exalting ourselves, building our own Tower of Babel. It is a life of always bending lower, humbling ourselves, and putting ourselves “under the mighty hand of God.”
We grasp God’s best for our lives, not by reaching up to snatch them from a hesitant god in the sky; but by getting under the mighty hand of the God who willingly and graciously gives to those who come before Him with their empty hands. We stoop and drink.
