Stop Talking
Scripture Reading: Proverbs 30:32
If you have been foolish, exalting yourself, or if you have been devising evil, put your hand on your mouth.
I read a chapter of Proverbs every day. The practical wisdom it contains is invaluable for living a good life. Like this particular verse, much of it isn’t profound in the sense that it is some great ancient wisdom. It is plain old common sense kind of stuff.
My poorly advised modern translation of this verse would be something like, “As soon as you realize you’re saying stupid stuff, shut up.” That’s some good advice right there. In our modern age, we could also say don’t hit that “post” button on your social media account when you're saying something evil or stupid. (Stupid Dad Jokes are okay though).
We, unfortunately, don’t always stop ourselves from saying stupid things. But as the old saying goes, “When you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.”

Good word! Thank you!
