Taught to Do
Scripture Reading: Psalm 143:10
Teach me to do your will, for you are my God!
Writing about Jesus, the author of Hebrews quotes Psalm 40 and points to its Messianic implications in saying, “I come to do your will, O God.” Jesus lived perfectly. He never strayed from the will of God. Even as a child, he was “about his Father’s business.” He didn’t come to consider, debate, or discover God’s will. He came to do it.
Much has been written about how to know God’s will. That is a worthy subject to pursue. And while we ought to think about this, we should also be praying like David in Psalm 143:10: “Teach me to DO your will.”
Often, our real problem is not knowing God’s will, it is having the will to do it. Frankly, when we talk about trying to discover God’s will, we are often thinking in terms of some grand plan we think he might have that will propel us to fame and success. And while chasing after that, we overlook what God has already clearly revealed as his will for our lives.
Husbands love your wives, wives submit to your husbands, give thanks in all things, do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together, forgive one another as Christ has forgiven you, be filled with the Spirit, make disciples of all nations, rejoice in the Lord always, devote yourselves to good works, be slow to anger, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God…shall I continue?
God’s will is revealed throughout the pages of Scripture. Mostly, our issue isn’t knowing God’s will, it is doing it.
So, pray with David, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God!”

This is great and much needed! Much gratitude for the exhortation!!
